When Houston hip-hop icon Bun B decided to get into the burger business, he brought the same energy that made UGK one of the most influential Southern rap groups of all time. Alongside restaurateur Andy Nguyen and business partner Nick Scurfield, Bun B launched Trill Burgers as a series of pop-ups in the summer of 2021. The response was immediate.
By July 2022, Trill Burgers had won "Best Burger in America" on Good Morning America, beating out finalists from Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Miami in a showdown in Times Square. Their brick-and-mortar flagship opened in Houston's Montrose neighborhood in June 2023 — and sold 53,146 burgers in the first month alone, averaging more than 1,700 per day.
The name "Trill" — a word meaning "true and real" — comes straight from Houston hip-hop culture. Bun B popularized the term through six solo albums, all with "Trill" in the title, building on a career that includes classic UGK albums like Ridin' Dirty and Underground Kingz (which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200). He's also featured on Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin'" — one of the biggest hip-hop songs of all time.
Today, Trill Burgers operates four Houston-area locations and has concession stands at NRG Stadium. Their Houston Rodeo presence has grown every year — in 2026, they built "Trill Town," a 9,000-square-foot interactive destination at NRG Stadium with a live DJ booth, games, a full bar, and a menu featuring their rodeo-exclusive Strawberry Trill soft-serve ice cream. Celebrity fans include Drake, Mike Tyson, Shaquille O'Neal, DJ Khaled, and Travis Scott.
The restaurant's interior pays tribute to Houston culture with murals honoring the late Pimp C, DJ Screw, the Houston Astros, and the city's iconic swanga rims.
