Ask a San Antonio local where they take out-of-town guests, and there's a good chance they'll say Rita's on the River. Located directly on the River Walk — just three blocks from the Alamo — Rita's has earned a reputation as one of the most iconic dining destinations in the city.
Owned by Gregg Weston and operated by Weston Entertainment LP, Rita's is part of a family of Riverwalk businesses that includes Bonita Rita's, Pizzarita's, Mercado Rita's, and Justin's Ice Cream. Their unofficial tagline says it all: "Where we take our friends from out of town."
Rita's is famous for their Texas-sized frozen margaritas, served in 32-ounce glasses — with a 60-ounce option for those who mean business. The signature drink menu reads like a love letter to San Antonio: the Big Red Rita blends a classic margarita with Big Red soda (a uniquely San Antonio creation), the Dos-A-Rita comes with a Dos Equis Lager dunked upside down in the glass, and the Coronita Rita arrives double-holstered with Coronita bottles.
The restaurant features live mariachi music, handmade tortillas, tableside guacamole, and one of the largest seating capacities on the entire River Walk — with both indoor dining and an expansive river patio. They've earned a TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Award, more than 1,700 TripAdvisor reviews, and over 1,700 Yelp reviews. They're even pet-friendly, with a dedicated dog menu.
